Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and a commentator working with NBC News in Washington D.C. She is also a television anchor. She graduated with an Bachelor of Arts degree in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania after growing up in New York City. Mitchell began working as a TV and radio reporter in Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. In 1976, she joined CBS affiliate WDVM-TV in Washington DC (then WTOP). She was hired by NBC News Washington two years later as an general reporter. 1980 began her coverage of the White House. 1988 became the chief congressional journalist. Then, in 1992 she was named chief White House Correspondent and in 1994, she was named chief foreign affairs reporter of NBC News. Mitchell was a guest in the TV news show Meet the Press as a panelist and host. Mitchell participated on a panel during the 1988 debates with George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan who was former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005, Mitchell was awarded the prestigious Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and in 2004 she was awarded the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) awarded Mitchell with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award for her work in the defense for First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's very first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. The time span covered the two Ronald Reagan terms in office. Mitchell has reported on a variety of notable stories over the years, including budget reform, tax reform and the Iran Contra saga. She traveled extensively along with Reagan as well as Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
